Pokhara Lakeside at Night: My Real Experience of Phewa Lake, Cafés, Evening Vibes & Nightlife

Our evening experience exploring Pokhara Lakeside, Phewa Lake, cafés and nightlife.
Our evening experience exploring Pokhara Lakeside, Phewa Lake, cafés and nightlife.

Pokhara was the place in Nepal where we finally started feeling like we were actually on a holiday.

Our Nepal trip had been completely unplanned from the beginning. We had not prepared a fixed itinerary, and even after reaching Pokhara, we were discovering places as we went.

But Pokhara was different.

After the long journey from Kathmandu, we finally had some time to slow down. We stayed near the Lakeside area, spent time around Phewa Lake, explored cafés, walked around in the evening and eventually experienced Pokhara’s nightlife.

For me, the best thing about Pokhara wasn’t just one particular attraction.

It was the overall vibe.

Reaching Pokhara After a Long Journey

We reached Pokhara quite late at night after travelling from Kathmandu.

The journey had already taken a lot out of us. We had travelled in a crowded vehicle, spent most of the day on the road and finally arrived in Pokhara around 10–11 PM.

Even after reaching the city, we still had to find our hotel.

We had booked a hotel online, but there was a small problem when we arrived. The room we had booked wasn’t available because of an issue with the booking.

We had specifically wanted a room with a view.

Fortunately, the hotel owner helped us arrange another room nearby.

It wasn’t exactly what we had originally planned, but after such a long journey, having somewhere to sleep was enough.

The First View That Changed My Mood

The next morning, I finally saw what Pokhara was actually like.

And honestly, this was the moment when I understood why everyone had been telling us to visit Pokhara.

Our hotel had a beautiful view of Phewa Lake, with the hills and mountains visible around it.

We could sit in the room and simply look outside.

After the long journeys, buses, crowded roads and constant travelling, that view gave us a completely different feeling.

There was no pressure to immediately go somewhere.

We could just sit there.

Eat.

Talk.

And enjoy the view.

At one point, I genuinely thought:

“Yaar, kya hi mast zindagi hai.”

Taking It Slow in Pokhara

We had originally planned to stay for around two days.

But after seeing the place and realizing how much there was to experience, we decided to stay longer.

We ended up spending around three days in Pokhara.

And one of the best decisions we made was not trying to cover everything immediately.

Sometimes when we travel, we make a list of ten places and spend the entire day running from one attraction to another.

In Pokhara, we actually took some time to relax.

We enjoyed the hotel.

We enjoyed the view.

And then, in the evening, we went out to explore Lakeside.

Our Evening Around Phewa Lake

When we went toward Lakeside, the atmosphere immediately felt different.

There were cafés and restaurants along the area, and people were sitting outside, talking and enjoying their evening.

There were plenty of travellers around us.

Some were Indian.

Some were international tourists.

There were couples, groups of friends and local people.

The entire area had a very relaxed holiday atmosphere.

We walked around without any strict plan.

We simply wanted to see what was happening.

And that turned out to be one of the nicest parts of our Pokhara experience.

Cafés, Food and Live Singing

There were many cafés around Lakeside.

A lot of them had seating where you could sit and spend time without rushing.

We visited cafés, ordered food and drinks and listened to live singing.

That live music created a really nice atmosphere.

Instead of simply eating and leaving, we could sit there for a while, talk and enjoy the surroundings.

The whole evening felt very easy-going.

After the amount of travelling we’d already done, that was exactly what we needed.

The Phewa Lake Vibe

Phewa Lake was always there in the background.

That was what made Lakeside feel so different.

You could be sitting in a café, walking around the streets or simply stopping somewhere for a few minutes—and the lake and surrounding hills were part of the experience.

We took photos and videos because we wanted to capture the atmosphere.

But honestly, some experiences are difficult to capture properly on a phone.

You can record the view.

You can take pictures.

But the feeling of actually sitting there after a long day of travelling is different.

Why Pokhara Felt So Relaxing

Kathmandu had felt much more like a city to us.

Pokhara felt slower.

We didn’t feel the same pressure to keep moving.

We could spend time near the lake, sit in cafés, talk to people and decide what we wanted to do next.

And because our entire trip was unplanned, that flexibility was perfect for us.

We didn’t have to worry about missing a fixed itinerary.

We could simply decide:

“Aaj yeh karte hain.”

And go.

Talking to Other Travellers

We also met other Indian travellers during our time in Pokhara.

Whenever we talked to people, we asked what they had already visited and what they recommended.

That’s actually how we learned about several places around Pokhara.

People told us about:

  • Sarangkot
  • Paragliding
  • Phewa Lake
  • Pumdikot
  • Other places around the city

We kept adding locations to our trip as we went.

That’s one thing I really enjoyed about travelling this way.

You don’t just follow Google Maps.

You also follow conversations.

Experiencing Pokhara Nightlife

Later, we decided to see what Pokhara looked like at night.

We had heard about the nightlife around Lakeside and eventually decided to check out Catwalk Club.

This wasn’t something we had planned before coming to Nepal.

It was another decision we made while we were already there.

We went out late in the evening.

At first, the area wasn’t as busy as we expected.

But as the night progressed, more people started coming out.

Our Experience at Catwalk Club

We eventually entered the club.

The entry fee was around NPR 500 per person during our visit.

Inside, there was music, a dance floor and people enjoying the night.

There were also other Indian travellers.

We didn’t book a table.

We simply wanted to experience the place, dance a little and see what Pokhara’s nightlife was like.

We spent some time there, had a few drinks and enjoyed ourselves.

It was completely different from the peaceful atmosphere we had experienced beside Phewa Lake earlier.

And that contrast was interesting.

Pokhara Has Two Completely Different Sides

During the day, Pokhara had felt peaceful.

We were looking at the lake and mountains and enjoying the quiet atmosphere.

At night, Lakeside had a completely different energy.

There were lights, cafés, music and people going out.

It made me realize that you can experience two completely different sides of Pokhara in the same day.

You can spend the afternoon relaxing beside the lake and later go out for music and nightlife.

That variety is what made Pokhara so enjoyable for us.

Late-Night Food After the Club

After leaving the club, we were hungry.

So instead of going straight back to the hotel, we looked for somewhere to eat.

We eventually found a café that was still open.

We ordered momos and a cold drink.

We didn’t want to spend too much at that point, so we kept it simple.

But the food was exactly what we needed after spending the night outside.

A Random Conversation That Stayed With Me

While we were there, we started talking with the people working at the café.

As usual, the conversation moved from food to travel and then to life in Nepal and India.

This was another thing I liked about Nepal.

We repeatedly found ourselves having conversations with complete strangers.

Sometimes we asked them for directions.

Sometimes we asked for recommendations.

And sometimes we simply started talking.

Those conversations became an important part of our trip.

The People Made the Experience Better

The places were beautiful, but the people made the journey more memorable.

Throughout Nepal, we met people who helped us with directions, transport, food and recommendations.

Even when we didn’t know where to go next, someone usually had an answer.

In Pokhara especially, talking to other travellers helped us discover more places.

It made the trip feel less like following a tourist itinerary and more like actually experiencing the destination.

What I Loved Most About Lakeside

If I had to explain why I liked Pokhara Lakeside so much, I wouldn’t choose just the lake.

I wouldn’t choose just the cafés.

And I wouldn’t choose just the nightlife.

It was the combination.

You could sit quietly and look at the lake.

You could go into a café and listen to live music.

You could eat momos.

You could meet other travellers.

And later at night, you could experience the nightlife.

Everything was close enough that you could decide what kind of evening you wanted.

Our Pokhara Experience Wasn’t Perfect—And That’s Okay

Because our trip was unplanned, things didn’t always go smoothly.

Hotels had booking issues.

Transport wasn’t always straightforward.

We sometimes had trouble finding rides.

We took crowded vehicles.

We got confused about routes.

But looking back, those problems are actually part of what made the journey memorable.

If everything had gone perfectly according to a spreadsheet, maybe we wouldn’t have had half the conversations or experiences we ended up having.

Would I Go Back to Pokhara?

Yes.

Out of all the places we visited during the Nepal trip, Pokhara was the place I personally connected with the most.

I liked the combination of the lake, mountains, cafés and relaxed atmosphere.

I also liked that you could have a peaceful evening and then experience nightlife later.

And most importantly, Pokhara gave us something we hadn’t really planned for:

time to slow down.

Final Thoughts

Our Nepal trip started randomly.

We didn’t know exactly where we were going.

We didn’t have a perfect itinerary.

We simply kept moving, asking people for suggestions and discovering places along the way.

And somehow, that led us to Pokhara.

Sitting near Phewa Lake, exploring Lakeside cafés, listening to live music, talking to travellers, eating momos late at night and eventually experiencing the nightlife gave us some of the most memorable moments of the entire trip.

For me, Pokhara wasn’t just another destination.

It was the place where we finally stopped worrying about “what next?”

We simply sat back and enjoyed where we were.

And sometimes, that’s exactly what travelling is supposed to be.
